The Brennan Center hires undergraduate student interns for fall, spring, and summer semesters to provide administrative and programmatic support to staff in our Communications, Development, Events, Finance, Human Resources, Operations, and Programs (Democracy, Justice, and Liberty & National Security) departments.
The Prison Policy Initiative provides work-study positions and volunteer opportunities for 5-College area students. Most often, students come in one-day or afternoon a week during the semester to help with ongoing or special projects. Please contact us or your student employment office for more details.
BASED IN NY: The Innocence Network Support Unit is seeking an intern to support the operational activities of the Innocence Network. The Network Communications/Special Projects Intern will report to the Innocence Network Coordinator and will work with other members of the Network Support Unit. The intern can expect to gain direct exposure to various areas of non-profit management as well as exposure to a national coalition of criminal justice reform organizations.
Interns will work on a variety of issues including immigrants' rights, racial justice, economic justice, and indigenous rights. Working closely with the Equality Division, interns will assist in all aspects of legislative, campaign, and policy advocacy.
Interns will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience by working alongside the National Prison Project team. They will also learn about creating change through class action litigation and about building and supporting strategic legislative and advocacy campaigns.

Interns will have the opportunity to support the ACLU’s organizing operations, including national and state-specific campaigns. We seek to provide students with opportunities to develop a deeper understanding of organizing, grassroots leadership development, and campaign planning and execution. While this position will require meaningful collaboration with the entire Organizing Division, the person in this role will primarily work with our Program and Planning team.
